“Building trust”, the key message

“The marriage between science and diplomacy, and high-level intergovernmental dialogue, is absolutely necessary to organize large scale protection of the oceans”, insists Prof Anders Meibom, director of the Transnational Red Sea Center at EPFL, in an interview for GESDA. “And the key element to build trust is through the open sharing of data”, he adds.
Prof Meibom was one of the speakers of the panel on “ocean stewardship”, together with Marine Biologist Antje Boetius, Director of the Alfred Wegener Institute, Vladimir Ryabinin, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, Gerard Barron, CEO & Chairman, Metals Company, Canada, and Robert Blasiak, Researcher at the Stockholm Resilience Center.
